Silica gel is used for drying sample gas prior to measurement. It can adsorb over 30% moisture by weight. The silica gel will change colors after it has adsorbed 15% of its weight in moisture. Silica can be recharged through oven baking.

3.5-mm beads, used in applications where visual control of moisture is required, contains cobalt dichloride, will remove moisture at temperatures as high as 150ºF

2.4-mm beads, used in applications where visual control of moisture is required, will turn to green at 15% moisture saturation, cobalt dichloride free, will remove moisture at temperatures as high as 150ºF
